The Coburg Districts Football Club is an Australian rules football club who compete in the Essendon District Football League.
We are based in the Melbourne suburb of Pascoe Vale,Melbourne Australia.
History
The Club was formed in 1951 as "Batman FC" and came to recognize the local community through a name change in 1981 to the Coburg Districts Football Club.
Initially fielding Junior & Senior sides in the Essendon District Football League (EDFL) from 1981 to 1987, due to a lack of junior numbers at the Club in the 1987 season, the EDFL decreed that the Club would no longer be affiliated within the Essendon League from season 1988.
Subsequently, the Club sought affiliation with the then Footscray District Football League (FDFL) which today is known as the Western Region Football League (WRFL).
The Club then went on to win the FDFL Premiership in 1988.
In true fighting Lions spirit, in 2013, the Club returned back to the Essendon District Football League where it remains today.
The Club has a proud history that see's many of the founding families still associated with the running of the Club.
With continued population growth within the Inner North, the Club now host teams with men's, women's, boy's and girls football teams. Adding to the array of teams Auskick is also offered for the young to learn the basics of football.
With the support of the EDFL, AFL, Moreland City Council and tireless commitment from members the Club prides itself on offering an inclusive environment for all to participate. We welcome all new members and players who abide by our 'Code of Conduct' policy.
New generations of families are now creating their own history at Cole Reserve.
WINNER OF AFL INCLUSIVE CLUB AWARD
IN 2019, the AFL Victoria announced Coburg Districts Football Club from the Essendon District Football League, as the winner of the 2019 ‘How Inclusive is your Club’ competition.
The competition welcomed nominations for clubs who have made changes to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for women.
Abbie Storer from Coburg Districts FC nominated her club for their extensive efforts in making the club an inclusive environment for women.
The club begins training late in the evening to allow for women to finish work and organise their family.
In addition, the women’s team trains alongside the men’s team once a week and the two teams share a meal in the club room, allowing the women to develop relationships and be in an inclusive environment.
The club ran an extensive pre-season providing an opportunity for the women to build relationships and improve their fitness before the season commenced.
The club appointed female trainers who understands women’s bodies, making them feel more comfortable.
Women are also involved in the decision-making process at the club, with a Female Football Coordinator sitting on the committee to ensure decision-making is inclusive and appropriate.
Nearly all the women in the team had never played football before and some had never played a team sport before. Coburg Districts FC has built a space where everyone belongs, regardless of their experience, fitness or confidence level.
